Fildebrandt proposes legislative amendment to provide limited pot amnestyPublished on May 16, 2018
Edmonton - Independent-Conservative MLA Derek Fildebrandt proposed an amendment in the Legislature today that would allow the Minister the power to review decisions of the ALGC when determining who is eligible for employment in cannabis retail outlets in Alberta.
“While we trust the Commission’s judgement, they operate with narrow regulations. People may be omitted from the list of individuals in good standing due to minor offensives. At the very least, this allows people the opportunity to have an independent party to appeal too. Hopefully, this is a first step in the government also expanding who may be eligible to be a cannabis licensee”
“When the Wheat Board was abolished, Prime Minister Harper pardoned those who had been charged with the crime of selling wheat; where it has the jurisdiction Alberta should do the same with pot.”
