RELEASE: NDP's 'Virtual Reality' Budget Has No Path to Balance
EDMONTON, AB: Today the NDP released its 2018-19 budget with another promise to return to balance.
"This time the promise is to balance the books by 2023-24, five years later than was promised during the election, and unfortunately this budget is not backed up with any math showing how they will do it," said Strathmore-Brooks MLA Derek Fildebrandt. "Under the NDP, the budget will only ever be balanced in virtual reality."
"Over the next two years, the biggest single increase in spending will be debt interest costs, which will skyrocket by $1 billion a year to nearly $3 billion a year; and these projections are rosy at best. If interest rates move up, our future could be determined by the US Federal Reserve."
Yesterday Fildebrandt tabled an Alternative Balanced Budget Plan that can be read HERE.
